Gem, for half-wits, like us, please brief us on your background.
I was part of the pioneer batch of GMA's Artist Center in 1998. Kasama ko nun sina Toni Gonzaga, Luis Alandy . Then in 2001. I released a dance record. It was called Journey, Gem Ramos . It was under EMI—Octoarts siya dati. One of my songs, “When Time Ends,” won in the 15 th Awit Awards, in 2002, for “Best Dance Track.” Around the same time, I transferred to ABS-CBN.
Oh, so you've been in the business for quite some time already. Does this kind of ignorance annoy you?
No naman. Okay lang. admittedly, I concentrated on my studies naman, eh. I really wanted to get a degree so inactive din ako madalas noon.
Were you able to get one?
Yes. I graduated with a degree in Mass Communications. I majored in Broadcast Communications. I graduated in CEU, Mendiola. Dapat, sa UP. Nakapasa ako run! Music yung course ko dapat dun. Alam mo kung bakit hindi ako tumuloy! Walang uniform sa UP, eh. Ha ha!
You let go of music because of the lack of uniform?
Back then, wala naman akong [pakialam sa prestige] kung sa UP ka o hindi. Yung school ko, sa harap lang ng school ng brother ko, so it was very convenient. But I am very passionate about music. Having an album, yung talaga yung dream ko. I think it runs in the family—my brother, si Duncan , is one of the vocalists of South Border.
Why was there no follow-up to your debut album? We reckon that was the success given that it won for you an Awit Award.
Yes, it was. In fact, my carrier singles, “Give Me A Sign,” stayed on the radio charts for months! Pero that was in 2001, that was the time when the music industry was badly hit by the pirated materials. So, yun.
Would you still want to pursue your music given the circumstances?
Yes, why not! Again, I'm passionate about making music. Dance music specifically, pero siguro, I'll go commercial muna. And hirap, eh. When I first came out, medyo mataas yung ginawa ko. I had feedbacks na I sounded foreign daw. So ngayon, commercial thinking muna. Kung ano yung kakagatin muna ng tao.
Now that you're slowly getting back into the scene, how would you like to be known?
I want to be known as a total performer. You know someone who can really sing and dance. I also do hosting and comedy sometimes. I perform in Laughline.

You did pretty well, despite being an FHM first-timer. How did you handle this shoot?
Oo, this is my first FHM. Thank you talaga. Okay naman, siguro sa dami lang ng pictorials na nagawa ko na before, [nasanay na ko sa harap ng camera].
You exude a healthy level of sexiness here. Is sexiness your constant state of mind?
Ah, no. I don't think that I'm sexy. Ha ha!
So what is sexy then?
Sexiness is more than just appearance. Ang pagiging woman mo, may substance dapat. Pero, of course, kahit papaano, may value pa rin ang appearance—yun ang una mong nakikita, eh. But it's not the end-all and the be-all of sexiness. Being witty is sexy. Someone who can carry a witty conversation, who's interesting and smart, is sexy.
What's a wrong thing to think about you?
Uh, one of the big misconceptions about me is that, kasi sobrang friendly ako, right? Pero mapag-isa ako, especially kung may problema. I'm a serious person. Sometimes, you'd see me in the corner lang and reading.
Showgirls strike us as a costume-y bunch. Would be you be willing to don a costume and fulfill a special someone's fantasy?
Hindi ko alam how to answer your questions! Ha ha ha!
Well, what kind of man will get you to say yes?
Kailangan maganda ang katawan! Ha ha! Yummy face din! Ha ha! Pero seriously, before I can fulfill his fantasy, dapat alam kong may respeto siya sa akin. He needs to treat me with respect. Yung alam kong hindi ako binabastos.
