Sheryn Regis

veryone knew that Sheryn Regis was going to be a singer to watch when her debut album "Come On In Out Of The Rain" – released soon after the premiere season of "Star in a Million" – picked up a Platinum Record award.

Almost two years later, in the first quarter of 2006, Sheryn is making news once more with the success of her follow-up to that platinum smash. The album, entitled "What I Do Best" and featuring the carrier single of the same title, was recently certified gold. Sheryn will receive the Gold Record award from Star Records' Managing Director Annabelle Regalado on ABS-CBN's Sunday noontime variety show "ASAP". It is, without a doubt, a welldeserved award for Sheryn.

Produced by songwriter and album producer Jonathan Manalo and mixed and mastered by sound engineer Arnold Jallores—who also teamed-up on Sheryn's first album – "What I Do Best" marks her maturity and versatility as an artist. If on her first album, she experimented with a diverse mix of genres from pop to power ballads, in this album, Sheryn has clearly found her niche, sound-wise.

"I'm a more mature singer now," admits Sheryn. "Sa una ko kasing album, pa-tweetums pa ang dating ko. In this album, I have no fast songs, only love songs, and I think I'm better able to internalize and express the emotions in each song this time."

Aside from the title track, another outstanding cut on Sheryn's sophomore outing is her teamup with award-winning songwriter and hitmaker Vehnee Saturno. The partnership between Sheryn and Vehnee began with her debut album, to which Vehnee contributed two songs, "Sana'y Di Pangarap" and "Follow Your Dream." Sheryn was also handpicked by Vehnee to represent the Philippines at the prestigious Voice of Asia singing contest in Kazakhstan , Russia in August 2004. Singing Vehnee's "Follow Your Dream" – a song that seems it was written especially for her—Sheryn bagged second prize at Kazakhstan , taking home a cash prize of ,000.

Sheryn and Vehnee's new collaboration, "Hindi Ko Kayang Iwan Ka," is the second single off the album. It is also the theme song of "Gulong ng Palad," a reworking of the top-rating drama serial of the 70s, and originally starring Ronald Corveau and Marianne dela Riva as the lovers Carding and Luisa.

Today's "Gulong ng Palad" stars TJ Trinidad and Kristine Hermosa as Carding and Luisa, with "Star Circle Kid Quest" winner Nash Aguas starring as Peping, a role originally played by Romnick Sarmenta.

Other noteworthy tracks on the album are "Sa Piling Mo," "Dahil Nagmamahal" and "Sabihin Mo Sa Akin," the theme song of "Kampanerang Kuba," and some well-loved remakes, including "I Don't Want You To Go," "When You Tell Me That You Love Me," "If Ever I See You Again" and "On My Own."

"Hindi Ko Kayang Iwan Ka" has been getting excellent airplay, while the album itself is selling very well. Sheryn has been busy promoting the album in mall shows all over Metro Manila and in her shows here in the Philippines and abroad.

Speaking of shows abroad, Sheryn is slated to do two shows in Australia this month of February. She flies to Australia on February 28 for shows in Sydney and Melbourne.

But that's not all. Sheryn is also set to do two other international concert tours—one in Dubai, and the other, a US tour which is still tentative as of this writing, but which, if it pushes through, will put Sheryn in touch with the many people who see her on TV via TFC (The Filipino Channel). She is looking forward to doing the show for Filipinos in the Middle East and America . "Excited din po akong makita sila at makapagperform doon dahil kahit paano, matutulungan ko na maibsan ang nararamdaman nilang homesickness," says Sheryn.

In February, Sheryn will also be doing the Valentine's circuit. She is scheduled to appear in an out-of-town Valentine show in Cagayan de Oro city on Feb. 14 and 15. She is also slated to fly to her native Cebu for two shows on Feb. 20 and 21, followed by another show in Zamboanga City . From there, she takes a well-deserved break until she leaves for her concerts abroad.

Sheryn is very happy over the way her career is going. Definitely, as the title of her album puts it, singing is truly what she does best.
