Ryan Agoncillo

efinitely, 2005 was a banner year for Ryan Agoncillo. He not only finished working on his first ever local film where he played one of the lead stars in Kutob, he earned a lot of good reviews from it, too.

Ryan has further carved his place in the industry by winning the KBP Golden Dove Award as Best Television Talk Magazine Show Host for Y Speak Live on Studio 23. The show also bagged the "Anak TV Seal Award" from the Southeast Asian Foundation for Children and Television which honored Ryan as one of the 10 most admired male personalities on TV today.

He has been tapped to give youthful appeal to the reformatted Magandang Umaga Pilipinas . Viewers also saw Ryan wrap up work for his first teleserye Krystala last year and how he has since become the partner of Judy Ann Santos.

Ryan and Judy Ann also starred in the Maalaala Mo Kaya episode Rosaryo and guested on Homeboy, ASAP and The Buzz.

Last year too, Ryan has become active in photography, and has done the photo shoot for a couple of billboards, album covers (Ely Buendia's new band Pupil and Velcro) and publicity pictures.

On top of his showbiz commitments, he also oversees a bar called 6 Underground in Makati which proves that this guy knows what he wants and works hard for it.

After the Krystala stint, Ryan has been looking forward to being part of a sitcom. "I'm a truly funny and fun-loving person. I was happy being part of Whattamen before. I hope I would be given the chance to show this funny side of me," he says.

He is also set on doing a film directed by Joey Reyes with Judy Ann. "It's our gift to our fans so I hope it pushes through," adds Ryan.

On the hosting front, Ryan hopes to get more significant hosting chores as he follows in the footsteps of his idols, Martin Nievera and Edu Manzano. Their David Letterman-like type of wacky yet substantial hosting is what Ryan hopes to do.

Rock stars and actors unite to clean the country's map

Three whole days saw rock stars and actors cleaning the Philippine Relief Map situated at the Luneta Park, a symbolic act of their desire to wipe out all negative elements (and people in position) currently plaguing the Philippines and keeping it from becoming a better country.

With the theme "Dakila Ka Pilipinas," this clean up campaign in Luneta was spearheaded by DAKILA–Philippine Collective for Modern Heroism and ROCKED (Rocking Society Through Education). It started at 6 a.m. last Friday and ended 9 p.m. yesterday.

Among those who took time out from their tight schedule in the limelight to participate in this activity with a cause that would benefit all Filipinos were Parokya ni Edgar's Buwi Meneses, Tado Jimenez, Dong Abay, actress Angelica Jones, Lourd De Veyra of Radioactive Sago Project, Ronnie Lazaro, Chin Chin Gutierrez, Cookie Chua of Color it Red, Jeffrey Santos, Black Jack, Pinikpikan, and many more.

Starstruck passersby and music enthusiasts had the opportunity to see a free concert when the artists present in Luneta performed some numbers as they took short breaks in the evenings after spending the whole day scrubbing off filth on the relief map and its surrounding area.

"This is our way of expressing our hope na sana malinis natin ang bansa natin sa lahat ng uri ng kasamaan at dumi. We know it's impossible to clean the Philippines but what's good about this clean up drive is that we tried to clean it. The fact that we were able to clean our country's map and remove lahat ng ‘burak' diyan clearly shows that there's a possibility na malinis din natin ang buong bansa natin ," Tado Jimenez of DAKILA told Manila Bulletin.

Tado along with his cleaning mates from showbiz and different universities in Manila hardly ate anything last Friday since they were too engrossed in the cleaning activity to even think about lunch. They only had bananas courtesy of actor Ronnie Lazaro who cleaned and waved at the same time to people on board the LRT (Light Railway Transit), in hope that they will understand the goal that he and his companions want to achieve.

"This campaign is not exclusive for people in show business. The reason why I keep on waving to passersby is because I want them to join us in our cause. If we cannot clean our country, we believe that cleaning the relief map can make a difference. We are removing all the negativity that is pulling down our country. It may sound idealistic but I think each one of us should do something to correct what is currently wrong in the Philippines ," ended Ronnie.
