ince she was a child, Genesis Calapan, better known as Patricia Javier, had always wanted to have her own vacation house.

Her dream formed in her mind because her father worked in a resort owned by Lani Mercado in Sitio Maagay, Barangay Inarawan, Antipolo City . “'Yong bahay nila Lani Mercado do'n, meron silang resort e . Noong maliit ako, nakikita ko. Sabi ko, ‘ Sana magkaroon din kami ng ganyan .”

To realize her dream, Patricia made it a point to accept as many job offers as possible. “ Lahat nga ginagawa ko na para matapos na ‘to [the rest house] e . Lalo na out-of-town shows. ‘ Yon, lahat yata ng show kinuha ko .”

Though her original plan was to have a private rest house for herself and her family, Patricia soon though of turning it into something more. “ Narealize ko , ‘ Bakit hindi ko gawin private rest house but at the same time business siya ?'”

Thus Villa Patricia was born. At 1,700 square meters, the medium-size vacation house was specifically designed to accommodate vacationers who wanted a resort all to themselves. “Kung sino ‘yong grupo na gustong mag-stay, sila lang talaga . Parang if or one day, feeling nila kanila ‘tong lugar na ‘to .”

Luckily for Patricia, it wasn't very hard to find a location for Villa Patricia. She only had to look at her own backyard. “ Dito talaga ako lumaki sa lugar na ‘to ,” she says. “Bahay namin ‘yan !' she points to a house sitting just a few feet from the resort's dining area.

Patricia bought the lot just two years ago and spent the next nine months building the resort.

A shot of the outside part of Villa Patricia's dining area. The whole area can seat 100 to 150 guest. The nipa huts in the background were actually made on the construction site. “ Hindi puwedeng dalhin ‘yan e, kailangan dyan talaga gawin .”

Patricia photographed in the makeshift gazebo in the dining area. She says the gazebo should come in handy in the event of a wedding or “ 'pag gusto nilang may play o karaoke.”

The inner part of the dining area is an extension of the larger dining area outside. At the time of our interview, only the dining area and the living room had been finished. But soon, Patricia plans on opening a beauty parlor and a souvenir shop downstairs selling Patricia Javier memorabilia.

The living room also acts as the common room for the seven bedrooms on the same floor as well as for the suite on the floor above. The paintings on the wall were done by Patricia herself. She reveals that she has been painting since May 2004 and that she honed her skills during the long waits between takes. “ 'Yong tipong kahit nasa trabaho ako, nagpe -paint ako habang naghihintay . Sa set, gano'n .”

Villa Patricia boasts a massage room and a Jacuzzi. While relaxing in Jacuzzi, customers can catch a perfect view of the hills surrounding Villa Patricia.

Patricia attends even to the small details, like picking out the titles for the stairs you see here. “ Nabili ako ‘yan sa bayan . Sa Antipolo.” These stairs go up to the living quarters and go down to the swimming pool.

Although this room is called the “ Patricia Room ,” Patricia doesn't actually sleep here. She explains how it got its name: “ Lahat ng gamit nilagay ko dito . Merong personal touch ko talaga . Para pag nagpunta sila rito …” She left the sentence hanging for fear of sounding pretentious. But her meaning was clear: She wanted guests to feel as if there were hanging out with her whenever they were in the room.

Another shot of the luxurious “Patricia Room.” Although this room is actually the resort's videoke lounge, Patricia put in a bed anyway. “ Para mas cozy siya !”

When noted the “Arabian Nights” feel of the queen-sized bed, which set the tone for the whole room, Patricia explained the inspiration for its design: “Pinasadya ko talaga kasi mahilig ako sa mga fairy tales. Mga prinse-prinsesa !”
